Riverbend Animal Sanctuary is a no-kill rescue located in Transylvania, Louisiana. We’re dedicated to saving abandoned, neglected, and unwanted dogs and cats, providing them with shelter, training, and a second chance at life.
At Riverbend, it’s about more than just saving animals—it’s about healing people too. Every rescued pet has the chance to become a beloved family member, a service companion for a veteran, or a shining star in performance events. In saving them, we also bring hope and happiness to the humans whose lives they touch.
Riverbend Animal Sanctuary was founded by Benita Lovell, whose journey with her Mini Aussies inspired her to create a safe haven for unwanted animals. Her personal struggles with purpose and mental health found healing through the joy of rescuing and raising dogs. What began as a dream of raising service dogs for veterans grew into a broader mission: to rescue the discarded, unloved, and abandoned, and give them a chance to shine again.
